Fillers & Botox

Botox page header (smiling woman)Dermal Fillers are a range of products which can correct lines, wrinkles, enhance lips, and contour your chin and cheeks. With a series of light injections your skin is supported and flattened to give a smoother, softer look.

Certain fillers are made from collagen which is a natural substance already found in your skin, so all you are doing is restoring natural elements of your skin. They have been in use for over two decades and have an excellent safety record. Effects are instant and can easily be completed within half an hour. Collagen is naturally absorbed but results last for up to 12 months so once a year, your practitioner can give you a quick makeover.

The fat and collagen underlying our skin begins to diminish due to the natural aging process. Therefore, our skin starts to sag and develop wrinkles. One way to correct these effects is a surgical procedure called a facelift, which is costly and is an invasive procedure that has its risks. Dermal fillers are a minimally invasive procedure with little or no recovery time, which cost less than surgery and have minimal risks. Dermal fillers have become a very popular and convenient way to address the ageing process.

Dermal fillers can be injected into areas with fine lines and wrinkles. Most of the problem areas include the area around the eyes, brow, bridge of the nose, mouth, jaw line and cheeks. Other areas that can be enhanced by dermal fillers include the lips, which can look fuller and younger after an injection. Scarring from injury to the face or from acne can also be corrected with dermal fillers.

There are many different types of dermal fillers which include collagen, hyaluronic acid, together with longer-lasting materials. Each of the dermal fillers has different strengths and weaknesses; some last longer than others, and sometimes a combination of different fillers may be used to ensure the best results. Physicians may formulate a specific treatment for each individual patient.

Below, is an outline of fillers we use at Savina Skin & Smile clinic:

Modélis is an injectable resorbable sub-implant indicated to restore facial volumes (eg. enhance the cheeks, cheekbones, temples, jaws, chin, nose…)

Mesolis - Rehydrating to perfection
Range of resorbable gels dedicated to rejuvenating the skin through rehydration – based on non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid.

Another product used in skin rejuvenation is botulinum toxin.  Botulinum toxin has beneficial effects only on wrinkles caused by muscular contractions. The growing bacteria produce the botulinum toxin, which inhibits the release of acetylcholine and results in the paralysis of the affected muscles. Botulinum toxin is also indicated in the treatment of hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) in the forehead, palms and soles, and axillare (armpits). It is not an appropriate treatment for wrinkles caused by solar exposure or other degenerative processes of the dermal tissues, but is effective on all other wrinkles. Effects last 6-12 months.

Side effects of dermal aesthetic procedures.
Side effects may include bleeding or bruising after the procedure. Allergic reactions have also been reported. Some degree of pain should be expected during the injection and redness for up to 36 hours after the procedure. Application of ice or arnica cream to the injection sites can decrease these symptoms.
